Northern Rhône Valley

Description

The Cave de Tain is among the world’s very greatest wine producers, a giant of the Northern Rhone with over 50 acres in Hermitage, a stunning, state-of-the-art winery (10 million Euros invested over the past five years) and a brilliant team of winegrowers.

Besides Hermitage, they produce most of the region’s IGP (previously Vin de Pays) and half of all Crozes Hermitage (but bottling only a third of that under their own top label), as well as St Joseph, Cornas and St. Peray.

Planted on the right bank of the Northern Côtes du Rhône, on steep terraces made of granitic sand. Grown in a microclimate with mediterranean influence.

100% Marsanne

Viticulture

Selection Parcellaire. Sourced from the Cave de Tain’s very best old vine parcels (50 years old!) at peak ripeness. On the lees for about 7 months, followed by blending and early bottling in the spring.

Winemaking

Hand picked grapes are gently pressed upon arrival at the winery, and only the best juice is kept for cold clarification. Fermentation starts in
tanks and is completed in 400l French oak barrels for part of the wine.

Accolades

92 pts “…notes of toasted hazelnuts, ripe melon and citrus. It’s medium to full-bodied, with a creamy, concentrated feel to the mid-palate and a long, silky finish. It’s delicious now, so why wait?”
– JC, Wine Advocate, 12/18

92 pts “Ripe citrus and pit fruit aromas are complicated by suggestions of pungent flowers, ginger and vanilla… expansive pear, tangerine and white peach flavors… Shows excellent clarity and spicy lift on the lingering finish, which reveals repeating floral and mineral qualities.”
– JR, Vinous, 5/20
