Languedoc

Description

Purchased in 1970 by the Durand and Valentin families, the Château was originally built in the 1500’s, on the ruins of a 12th century fort. Records of winemaking date back to 1550! Lancyre is now viewed among the top estates of Pic Saint-Loup, which has justifiably garnered a reputation as the Languedoc’s single best wine district.

Named “D’ici ont voit la mer“ (“From here we see the sea“) after the panoramic, 360° views from the summit of the Pic Saint Loup.

Tasting Notes: Pale pink in color, with a nose of citrus and exotic fruit. Light but very intense on the palate, with ripe red fruit character leading to a bright, persistent finish.

Serve With: Excellent on its own, it will pair well with tuna tartare, grilled summer vegetables, and more…

Vineyards

198 acres planted to Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Carignan, Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier. Clay/limestone based soils. Vines average nearly 500 feet in elevation, with the highest parcels at 650 feet above sea level. Sustainably grown.

Pic Saint-Loup is widely viewed as the Languedoc’s best wine district. It is the most northerly of all Languedoc appellations, and stylistically, the wines are closer to Northern Rhône wines than their Southern Rhône counterparts (think Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie, not Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
