Les Vignerons de Tautavel Vingrau (VTV) is a cutting‐edge producer of Roussillon wines. Formed in 2009 by the merger of cooperatives in Tautavel and Vingrau, the focus on quality has attracted growers from 7 villages. Vineyards are in the high, cool, northern interior of Roussillon, with 20% of the acreage in the new Appellation Maury Sec, whose reputation has soared since it was established in 2011.
“Les Vingt Marches” (“Twenty Steps”) was the origin of the name of the village of Vingrau (vin = twenty, grau = marches, or steps). This small set of twenty steps allowed access to the village from the Cirque of Vingrau.
Tasting Notes: Aromas of cherry jam, licorice, bacon and light toast notes on the nose. Soft, elegant, fine‐grained tannins on the palate lead to a long, persistent finish.
Serve With: Excellent with magret duck breast with cherries and port sauce, and other boldly‐flavored red meat preparations.
